The Problem: All email that you send get’s bounced back with the following message:
Subject Line: Delivery Status Notification (Failure)
Message: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
[email protected]
Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 #5.1.0 Address rejected [email protected] (state 14).
The Cause: There is no “mail.domain.com” in the dns system. In my case I was sending the mail via an alias (it was a notification email from the web server). The receiving mail server sees the email as forged and bounces it.
The Solution: Go to the dns system and create a mail.domain.com and point your MX records to that. It’s a bit silly, but it has to be done that way.

Thanks for the tip provided. My DNS is at Godaddy.com. I created a
new MX record for my two domains as you instructed. Is there
any thing else that needs to be done on the server itself? Thanks
More than half modern culture depends on what one shouldn’t read.
Thanks much for this tip, but can you please clarify your steps?
You write:
Go to the dns system and create a mail.domain.com and point your MX records to that. It’s a bit silly, but it has to be done that way
As I understand:
Go to My Account -> Domain Manager
Select my domain
Click Total DNS Control
Add New MX Record (Priority 0 ; Host @ ; Goes To mail.domain.com)
Am I right? Or I do somethig wrong or miss some additional steps?
We’ve just had the same thing occur – but in our case our mail service was added under an ‘asiapacific’ region rather than U.S. There is also a ‘Europe’ smtp service. So we had to add new MX records (under Total DNS link from Domain manager) as:
MX @ smtp.asia.secureserver.net (set to 0)
MX @ mailstore1.asia.secureserver.net (set to 0)
waited 1 hour and all ok. (if europre then its smtp.asia.secureserver.net)
You can see the region for your mail account on the right side of the page in Account manager > Manage email accounts
Thanks for the tip and the extra help in the comments especially from Maritime News. I’ve made the changes to the DNS, now to wait an hour and see if it works.
The settings if your email is hosted on the Europe server are:
MX @ smtp.europe.secureserver.net (set to 0)
MX @ mailstore1.europe.secureserver.net (set to 0)
This suggestion appears to be useless:
I sent mail to webmaster@Someone Else’s Domain, which bounced with the above error.
Since I do not own or admin Someone Else’s Domain, the suggested solution is not available to me.
Obviously, since mail to webmaster gets bounced, I am unable to advise webmaster of the problem.
Please advise.
Hmm, I don’t think that would fix anything. No idea as to how to fix that, sorry.
Hi All,
I had the same problem with one of my hosted domains. I created a few user on that hosting account and they were unable to receive emails from outside domains. For example anybody sending emails to them from their Gmail or hotmail were bounced with following error:
—————————————–
Reporting-MTA: dns; senders_smtpserver.com
X-Postfix-Queue-ID: SOME_NUMBER
X-Postfix-Sender: rfc822; sender@send_domain.com
Arrival-Date: Mon, 3 Jan 2011 12:58:18 +0530 (IST)
Final-Recipient: rfc822; receive-user@receive_domain.com
Original-Recipient: rfc822;user@receive_domain.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0
Remote-MTA: dns; recipient’s_mail_hosting_server
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 #5.1.0 Address rejected user@receive_domain.com
——————————————
I had an existing email address webmaster@receive_domain.com. I made this as CATCHALL account. And thereafter the problem resolved automatically.
I have ThisOldSite.com redirected / fowarded to ThatNewSite.com
This works properly for webpages and I want to do the same for emails. I put a second MX record for “ThisOldSite.com” in the DNS data for ThatNewSite.com’s MX record.
Something like this…
MX @ mail.ThatNewSite.com
MX @ mail.ThisOldSite.com
Is this the correct way to permanently forward email messages?
All you have to do is: For instance if you have email with RoadRunner and it is forwarding your email to your Outlook, go to your webmail (Example Roadrunner), go to settings and look at your Forwarding options. If you have an email address in the list of adresses that is no longer valid, you will be receiving the 5.1.0 Address rejected message. Just delete the unwanted address and that should fix your problem.
ok same thing domain is at heritage web solutions going to fasthosts.
send ok receive is dead
Hi.

I’m based in China and I’m still having problems when sending or receiving emails using my domain account.
I set my DNS like this:
MX @ smtp.asia.secureserver.net (set to 0)
MX @ mailstore1.asia.secureserver.net (set to 0)
MX @ smtp.secureserver.net (set to 0)
MX @ mailstore1.secureserver.net (set to 10…by default is set to 10)
Anyone have any idea why is not working?
Please help!
I have an email form running on the website that uses gmail smtp to send out emails. The emails use different return path.
Some emails get rejected returning the following error message:
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
[email protected]
Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 #5.1.0 Address rejected [email protected] (state 14).
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks
THANK YOU Maritime news!!! Your comment looks like what my problem is: just set up a new godaddy email account and chose asia, just changed MX entries to the asia ones like you did, now waiting for the hour to pass! I’m sure that’s it and it will work. cheers.
Just called GoDaddy Domain support and the guy pointed me to this page…
http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?answer=174125
You have to delete all current entries in your MX list and add the five you see on that page.
Good suggestion, but what I had to do was put the google MX in and made sure it saved. Works fine now.
no much efforts required. if you are using godaddy account, just set mailHost = “relay-hosting.secureserver.net”. will work fine.
Delete email plan and account.
Add account only selected US , not asia or euro 😀
Hi The recipient’s email address is valid. I just cannot send out via my google mail. Please teach me how to fix this. Thanks.

okay so i email my resume (attached) from my email address to several potential employers daily.
i don’t have this problem with all of them just once in awhile.
these are great companies to work for.
is it the attachment or the links in my email that sets them off?
I am not using outlook yet, i direct mail from gmail. to their directs mails ([email protected]). I do not own the google domain and do not have sub email accounts.
so what say you now?

I’m a little confused by the solution (perhaps I haven’t had my coffee yet). Do I need to create a new A record at my registrar that points to mail.mydomain.com and then create a matching MX record?
I too had the same problem with my domain. But mine was resolved with your tip!
Just need to have a CNAME entry for mail/email pointing to email.secureserver.net and then have the MX entry for the same pointing to mail.domain.com/email.domain.com
Cheers!
